Pogoplug Series 4 Review Up on theverge.com

Over at theverge.com, there is a new review of the Pogoplug Series 4. Pogoplug offers 5 GB of free cloud storage, software to create your own storage that is available anywhere (Pogoplug PC), and hardware to turn any external hard drive into a NAS. Theverge.com finds the Pogoplug version 4 easy to setup:

I'm used to network devices being quite a pain to set up — getting a NAS up and running is not something I'd recommend to most people — but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's quite simple to install the Series 4. After you take the device out of its box, you can just visit a website that'll guide you through the setup process. All you do is plug in the power, connect the Pogoplug to your router with the included Ethernet cable, insert the storage device(s) of your choosing, and then sign up for an account.

The device has all the connectivity you could want - an SATA port, two USB 3.0 ports, a USB 2.0 port and of course a Gigabit Ethernet port to connect it to your network. About the only common connectivity option missing is Firewire. The device seems quite speedy, but theverge says it can't quite recommend it until there are some software updates since the transcoding to view files over the internet seems somewhat unreliable.

Pogoplug has the reputation of updating the software on its hardware devices, so there is hope that the spotty transcoding performance will be fixed soon.
